Udhayakumar and Vasanthi are collegemates and they fall in love. But soon he comes to know that she is engaged to be married. After he moves to Chennai and finds a job as a reporter at a magazine. He tries to fight for social change. In the process , he unknowingly gets to know a group of unsavoury characters who promise to help him in his goals. They frame him up. One day Udhaya is arrested for a crime involving a terrorist plot which he is not responsible. The movie is about how Vasanthi fights to prove his innocence and to get him out from behind bars.

Science College Principal Tripathi is criticized by the college professors, as his younger brother Ajay failed the exam twice and fell behind by two years. Tripathi is angry with Ajay and wants him to give up poetry and concentrate on his studies. Driven to fury by Underwood's uncontrollable demands, Alicia shoots him in a quarrel and makes her escape just as Howard enters; despite his innocence, Howard confesses to the crime when subjected to the third degree. Annie, realizing her mother's guilt, claims to be guilty, but Alicia then confesses. Annie is saved from suicide by Howard, and they are united by love.
