Louis 19, King of the Airwaves
Be careful what you wish for...it just may come true. This is the underlying theme of this French-Canadian comedy drama that follows the travails of a TV addict who wins a talent contest and finds himself the subject of an embarrassingly revealing television series. Louis Jobin is a rather depressive young salesman who works in an electronics store. At night he is a passionate channel surfer, sitting upon his couch staring at his television. When Channel 19 announces a talent contest. Louis immediately enters. The contest winner will become the subject of a TV show with Channel 19 filming every movement, 24 hours a day for three months. Louis wins the contest and is at first elated by his prize but then begins to feel otherwise after he becomes a celebrity.

Featuring a tour de force performance cameo by Wil Wheaton (Stand by Me, TV’s Star Trek: Next Generation) as a Christian bookstore manager, Fag Hag pays homage to John Waters while launching a bold new message to the gay community. The film is set in Hope Springs, CA where we meet Destiny Rutt (Stephanie Orff; RESPECT MY ASS), a pathological liar and last place shoe-in for the first annual Miss Hope Springs Pageant. When Destiny meets Scott Bushey – a gay drifter whose ambition is to make it big as the worlds first white HIV-positive rap star “T-Cell”, the two make fast friends and resolve “to take this town of outdated gay guys by storm!”

Lenny Bruce in 'Lenny Bruce'
Iconoclast Lenny Bruce appears at San Francisco's Basin Street West in what was his next-to-last live appearance. His act that night consisted of reading allegations and transcripts from one of his several obscenity trials and then commenting on what he'd actually done or said. While there are some "bits" in the performance (including the prison riot with Dutch, the Warden, Father Flotski, and Sabu, the prison doctor), this is much more a social commentary on government intrusion and censorship than it is a comedy routine. (IMDb)
