Naran
Mullankolli is a rustic remote village in northern Kerala. Velayudhan (Mohanlal) is an orphan who came floating during floods and he was brought up by Valiya Nambiar (Madhu) a do-gooder and a feudal landlord of the area. Velayudhan grows up into a riff-raff, drunkard and a local rowdy with a good heart. He hates injustice and has set his own rules for the villagers who are scared of him including local moneylender and politician - Member Kurupu (Jagathy) and Gopinathan Nambiar (Siddique), son-in-law of Valiya Nambiar who wants to rule over the village in his own way.
Kamaladalam
Nandagopan (Mohanlal) is a respected dance teacher at the Kerala Kala Mandiram (alluding to the famed Kerala Kalamandalam repertory which performs Kerala's temple arts). However, his wife Sumangala (Parvathi) commits suicide, causing him to turn into an alcoholic and a compulsive rule breaker. He is suspected of having killed his wife and is suspended from his job for drunken misbehaviour. The new secretary of the institute Velayudhan (Nedumudi Venu) wants him to be sacked but his former reputation gives him a reprieve. He trains the talented student Malavika (Monisha) to perform in his ambitious composition of the Sita Kalyanam, but her jealous young lover Soman (Vineeth) poisons him.

The king of Maninagaram is cheated, dethroned and banished from the country by Regent Chandra Varma. The royal priest and army officer Prathapan lend support all the treacherous plans of the Regent.
