Suraj (Govinda) lives with is parents viz, dad (Aloknath), mom Savitri (Seema Deo), sister Pooja (Parijat), elder brother Amar, his sister-in-law, and a niece and nephew. Amar is employed in the persian gulf and sends some money so that the family can find a suitable groom for Pooja. When Suraj goes to deposit the money in the bank, some bankrobbers intercept him and take his money. Since the money was not deposited in the bank, the bank is unable to guarantee the amount. Suraj does not share this info with his family, so that they needn't worry. Suraj goes in search of the culprits and meets up with a petty thief and pick-pocket Bindiya (Farha). He feels sorry for her, and takes her home and introduces her to his family, and promises to marry her.

Kamla lives a poor lifestyle in a small town in Uttar Pradesh, India, along with her widowed dad, Dinanath, who works as an Accountant with Sarpanch Journal, and two younger brothers, college-going Kumar, and school-going 12 year old brother, Kishore. Dinanath's main aim is to get Kamla married to her lover, wealthy Prem, and ensure that Kumar and Kishore get a proper college education. When Dinanath's eyesight becomes very weak, he starts making errors, and loses his job. He does manage to persuade his employer, Laxmidas, to hire Kumar once he gets his degree in Arts. On the day of the results, Kumar has an accident and passes away, a devastated Dinanath bangs his head, injures himself, is hospitalized, recovers but loses his vision completely. As a result, Kamla's wedding is canceled, Prem reluctantly gets married to Shyama; while Kamla gets a job and starts to look after her dad and Kishore.

Joan is loved by a young man of the village and they are married. In a few weeks the husband, a soldier, is sent to the war-front along with his three brothers. Word is received that her husband has been killed in battle and Joan's first impulse is suicide by she is pregnant and her prospective motherhood makes her realize her new responsibility. The military authorities start a movement to get the young women of the country to marry departing soldiers, so that the empire may have another generation of fighting men. Word is received that the King is to pass through their village and Joan organizes the women in a general protest against the war. The soldiers threaten to shoot her unless she turns the women back, buy Joan comes face-to-face with the ruler and kills herself, as her message from the women that they refuse to make another generation victims of a ruthless militarism.

Rameshchandra Chaudhry, a lawyer by profession, is in love with Hemnalini, and is displeased when he finds that his father wants him to marry Sushilla, the daughter of a widow. He initially refuses despite of his father disowning him, but changes his mind when the bride's mother pleads with him, and gets married without even seeing, leave alone getting to know his bride. After the marriage, they board a boat which overturns after a storm, and they end up being the only survivors. Unable to get Hemnalini out of his mind, he refuses to be intimate with his bride. On talking with her gradually over the next few months, it slowly sinks in that she is not Sushilla but Kamla - the bride of another male! The question remains: what can he do under these circumstances, and what impact will this have on Kamla - who has traditionally accepted him as her husband.

Ravi (Uday Kiran) is the son of a multimillionaire in Hyderabad. Vasundhara (Anita), is the daughter of a milk supplier. Ravi and Vasundhara both study in the same college. The film starts with Vasundhara showing hatred towards Ravi, as he is a sportsman who is not good in his studies. Over a period of time, her hatred turns into love. Finally, they both fall in love, but their parents do not agree with their marriage. Parents plan to avoid the marriage by giving the couple a clause that they should not meet each other for one year. If their love remains even after one year then their parents would agree to let them marry. Father of Ravi puts him under house arrest in Mumbai. While Vasundhara's father takes her to his hometown and arranges a forced marriage. However, both Ravi and Vasundhara manage to escape. The rest of the story is about how the pair unites against all odds.

Jhumroo is heart-broken and goes to meet with Anjana, who does tell him that she loves him, but must obey her father. What Jhumroo and Anjana do not know is that she is not Dwarka's daughter, but is the daughter of Kamla, and abducted at a very young age.

Shobha lives a poor lifestyle along with her widower dad, Murari, in a village. One day a gypsy, Mangal, comes to her rescue when she is being chased by a bull, both continue to meet and fall in love with each other. Shortly thereafter she is abducted and taken to a man named Dildaar. Before she gets molested, she is rescued by Mangal, returns home to find that her father has passed away. When she refuses to marry Lalaji, he spreads rumors about her, and the villagers subsequently disown and blacklist her. She decides to go and live with Mangal, who is the son of Sardar Babbar, at the gypsy camp, but Mangal refuses to have to do anything with her. Subsequently Mangal returns to Shobha, apologizes, and both patch-up. Then Shobha's life is shattered when she comes across evidence that it was actually Mangal who abducted her, while Mangal himself faces many challenges and may even be killed for betraying his people.

It is then that Khanna finds out that Raja is a poor motor mechanic, and is the brother of union leader, Shanker. He asks Raja to leave, and warns Anju that if she ever sees him again, he will arrange to have Raja killed. Anju must now decide to carry on with her love-life, or obey her father and save her lover's life.

Janki lives a poor lifestyle in a small village consisting of her dad, Bhervi Prasad and her mom. She meets and falls in love with her school-teacher, Ramcharan, and both want to get married. Ramcharan's brother is opposed to this marriage as Bhervi is unable to pay any dowry, nevertheless the marriage does take place, but the couple are turned out of Kalicharan's house, and instead go to live with Ramcharan's friend, Ashok Mishra.

Kishore's dad is a miser, busy accumulating money by hook or by crook. He lives in a palatial house with his wife and Kishore. He would like Kishore to marry the only daughter of a very wealthy man, so that he gets a hefty dowry, as well as the vast property and assets when the woman's parents pass away. Kishore is exactly the opposite of his dad. He loves to squander his dad's hard-earned money, and has no use for it at all. He dislikes the rich woman his father wants him to marry, and runs away from home. He meets Mala and both fall in love with each other. Kishore wants Mala to marry him, but Mala will only marry when their respective families approve of them, so Kishore has to come up with a scheme to pull wool over his money-minded father - which he does - with hilarious results.

Pooja has been brought up by her grandparents, and has no recollection of her mom and dad. She is told by her grandpa, Kantaprasad, that her dad had passed away. Years later, Pooja has now grown up. She starts getting mysterious phone calls from a male who merely says "I love you", and hangs-up. When her grandpa has these phone calls traced, the caller is Anand, Pooja's dad. Kantaprasad has him beaten up, and warns him against contacting Pooja again. When Pooja is being molested by a male in her apartment building, Anand comes to her rescue, and it is then Pooja comes to know that this shabby, alcoholic man is her dad. Will Pooja accept him, or will she follow her grandpa's advise and continue on with her life.

Renu lives a poor lifestyle with her family. Shattered and devastated with the deaths of her father and brother, Renu decides to take up the mantle of feeding her family, hiding her dad's death from her ill and fragile mother, and goes along pretending that her father is still alive. Retired Judge Shyamlal Kumar lives in a palatial home with his wife and only son, Arvind, who is now studying law and is on his way to become a lawyer, and after that a judge just like his dad. Arvind meets with beautiful Asha Shastri, both fall in love and would like to get married. Asha introduces Arvind to her astrologer dad, Chintamani, who instantly approves of Arvind; while both Shyamlal and his wife give their blessings and approval to Asha. But when Chintamani, whose predictions always prove to be accurate, sees a dark future for the young couple, withdraws his blessings and asks them not to marry each other. Spooked by this, Shyamlal and his wife also ask Arvind to marry someone else. She has a admirer in Arun, who secretly loves her, would like to marry her, but knows that he is poor and will be unable to afford a family, as he is a mere painter. Then an elderly man enters Aarti's life, he is ill, she offers to look after him until he gets better and leaves, but he does not leave, as he has nowhere to go, and she allows him to stay. Then good luck smiles on them as Arun sells one of his paintings, and he is able to get artificial legs for the child. The plot revolves with series of flashbacks which reveals a judge's past and hidden secretes. Gyanendra, a judge lives with his wife Sarama. Being the Judge, every time of trial of similar cases he remembers his past, the truth about his questionable actions. Gyanendra always recalls when he was a popular lawyer, married to Sumoti, a suspicious and rude lady. But he had a weak feelings for his professor's daughter Sarama. One day Gyanendra's house was burnt and his first wife Sumoti dies. Gyanendra could not make any attempt to save her perhaps he was unable bear Sumati further. Thereafter he marries Sarama and becomes a judge but he realizes his crime and those past haunts him much.

A family drama with a special focus on two generations of the Chopra family. Dinanath Chopra lives in a small tenement with his wife, and two sons Baldev, and Chandramohan. Dinanath re-finances his house in order to get Baldev to study further and be a doctor, and also gets him married with Rekha who comes from a very wealthy family. Chandramohan studies in college, and has a sweetheart in the form of the gorgeous Asha. Asha lives with her mom, and dad, a sort of quack. Differences in the Baldev emerge and multiply. Baldev and Rekha move to their palatial house. The birth of a baby boy to Rekha does lighten things up a bit, but not for long. Dinanath loses his eyesight in an accident and becomes blind.

Dr. Satish travels from the big city to a small village, where he can serve the poor who cannot afford to go to the city for medical treatment.
