Karthavyam is a 1990 Telugu film directed by Mohan Gandhi. The film was a super hit and was subsequently dubbed into Tamil as Vyjayanthi IPS and became a hit there too. The lead actress Vijayashanti won the National Film Award for Best Actress for her performance in this film.

Vishal Chaudhry is the second son of Assistant Police Commissioner of Police, Ramakant Chaudhry. His eldest son, Vikas, was killed by unknown elements, who are still at large.
