Ravi Shankar lives in a shabby hotel room belonging to the owner of the Hotel "Allah Belli", Sheikhu Dada. Ravi studies in college and pays his rent and living expenses through money-orders sent to him from his dad. Ravi's devotion to the illiterate Shaikhoo Dada borders on worship, which doesn't sit well with his wife or her father, wealthy tycoon Seth Jaghannadh. When Seth drives a wedge between Ravi and Dada, Ravi risks everything to make things right.

Laxmi finds an abandoned baby at a temple and decides to keep him. When her husband, Shankar, returns from jail, they name the child Ramu. While Laxmi wants him to go to school, study and become someone important, Shankar wants him to gamble, partner him in bootlegging and smuggling. Ramu is unable to fit in school and decides to work with his dad. Thus Ramu grows up accepting crime as his career. Then a young woman named Mala enters his life, and both fall in love with each other. When Mala finds out about Ramu's career, she makes him promise that he will go straight. Then Ramu's world gets turned upside when Inspector Hemant, while apprehending Shankar, guns down Laxmi. An enraged Ramu decides that he must kill Hemant at any cost. Widower Rai Bahadur Pratap Singh is disappointed when he wants to marry someone poor. With the help of the courts and the police, Pratap manages to bring Guddu to his home. This is where Pratap will find out that money and power will not buy him his grandson's love, he will also find out that his daughter-in-law did not die a normal death, but was killed.

The story thinly revolves around power shortage aptly freshened up by ample doses of action, comedy and love. Viraat Prasad (Darshan) is a businessman who wants to provide a solution to the existing power problem and in consultation with the chief minister, a role played by Suhasini, he plans to build a thermal power project. Enter Surendra Singh (Ravi Shankar), an opportunist, who tries to distract the chief minister and take over the project. But the project is handed over to Viraat which does not go down well with Singh. Balancing the friction and the action is romance involving three ladies - Keerthi (Chaitra Chandranath), Spoorthi (Vidisha Srivastava) and Preethi (Isha Chawla), who are head over heels for Viraat, but the latter chooses one among them, managing to maintain his friendship with the other two. How does he handle Singh and the thermal project and who does he select as his love runs in parallel and forms the crux of the film.

Babloo (Vinay), a con artist, works for Shankar Dada (Prabhu), a local goon, whose rival Soori ( Pradeep Rawat), is planning to kill Deepika, Shankar's sister (Sharmila) to avenge the murder of his son. Meanwhile, Deepika falls in love with Babloo but her doting brother has other plans for her.

Raghavan (Sarathkumar) and Velu (Vadivelu) work as cooks in a non-veg hotel. Raghavan loves Geetha (Kiran) who is the daughter of a rich man (Vijayan), but her father is against this love and insults him as a poor man. Raghavan challenges that he will be rich in a year. There is a subplot in the story, for Meenakshi (Sharmili), a daughter from a rich family; she is the apple of the eye of the family. Meenakshi ran home with her lover Raju, who worked as a driver to her house. He tells that his friend Dinesh will help them. However, Raju escaped because he saw a bad dream where he is killed by her family as if it will happen in reality. Due to that he vanishes. Raghavan understood her plight and helps her.

Adithya Varma, his wife Subhadra and daughter Kaveri live in the same compound where Sasi and his wife Parvathy lives. Sasi and Parvathi go to the office along with Varma. Kuttan Pillai, a gossip manager, does not like their relationship. He tries to drive a wedge between Varma and Sasi families. Varma asks his advocate to look for a man for his company. Advocate recommends Jayan, son of his friend for the job. Jayan is appointed in the company. Kuttan Pillai tells Varma's wife that it was not fair for Varma to go with Sasi and Parvathi. One day Parvathi come late from the office. A quarrel takes place between her and her husband on this account.

Shamsher Singh (Kulbhushan Kharbanda) is a pure-hearted, selfless and God-fearing man. The only sad part in his life is that he is childless. One day, while returning from a pilgrimage, he and his wife, Bansa (Tanuja), find an abandoned child. They decide to bring up the child and name him Gurdit. Later, the couple has a child of their own. Both siblings grow to manhood, loyal to each other until a woman drives a wedge between them.
