Amidst the daily din of the local trains in Calcutta, a lonely working woman in her late fifties finds herself falling in love with the voice of the railway announcer.

Anoop studies law in Calcutta, while his widowed mom in a small town in West Bengal. He has a sister, Sudha, who is married to Anil and lives in Calcutta. Since Anoop is of marriageable age, his mom has seen a girl for him, whose name is Vidya, and is the daughter of Shankarlal. When Anoop returns home, she asks him for his approval, but he says he wants to see the girl first. He goes to see Vidya, and also gets to meet another belle by the name of Minoo. He returns home, tells his mom that he cannot marry Vidya, but will marry only Minoo.

Chandan lives with his elder brother and uncle. One day while going across the river to get some medications for his uncle, he meets with Gunja, and both eventually fall in love. Fate makes Gunja's sister, Roopa, get married to Chandan's brother. Roopa dies in a freak accident. The family decides that Chandan's brother should get married again, and they propose marriage to Gunja. Will Chandan sacrifice his love for his nephew, and brother? The film revolves around a typical middle-class family of Bengal. Ananda (Rajatava Dutta) is a very meek guy and is scared of confronting people. He is a peace-loving man and very shy in nature. There wedding was the next day, and they have to go ahead with it, the honour of both the families were at stake. Mohan too aware of his being exposed, disappears from the sanatorium and is untraceable.
