When Inspector Yadav (Kulbhushan Kharbanda) shoots down a criminal couple in the line of duty, his heart goes out to their orphaned baby son Krishna. He adopts the child, who grows up with Yadav's own daughter, Gauri (Farha). As they grow up, Krishna (Sunny Deol) and Gauri fall in love - but an obstacle is looming in their path in the form of Yadav's young second wife (Sujata Mehta), who is attracted to the handsome Krishna, and in her jealousy proceeds to do all she can to destroy the young couple's chances of happiness.

The family of Justice Saxena is extremely happy until his younger brother Inspector Rajesh Saxena (Suresh Oberoi) arrests a notorious gangster, Bhawani Singh. Justice Saxena sentences Bhawani Singh to death. Bhawani Singh's brother, Dilawar Singh (Danny Denzongpa), vows to avenge his brother and he kills the judge as well as his driver Shanker. Dilawar Singh also tries to kill their sons. Driver Shanker's son, Karan (Ajay Devgan) loses his eyesight while saving Justice Saxena's son Babloo. Justice Saxena's wife, the two children and Rajesh Saxena leave the city. Dilawar Singh finds them and kills the Judge's wife and throws Babloo out of the running train. Before dying, Babloo donates his eyes to Karan. Karan vows that he will not remove his goggles till he confronts Dilawar Singh.

Ravi would like to study medicine and then come back and practice it in his small town where there is no doctor or medical facility available for miles. Encouraged by the townspeople and his brother, Bankhe, he re-locates to Bombay, where in a few years time he is able to successfully complete his studies and become a doctor. When he returns home, nothing is the same anymore. His brother Bankhe is absconding, running away from Daku Jwala, who has sworn to kill him to avenge his brother's death - and Dr. Ravi himself has to face Jwala sooner or later - as Jwala's vengeance includes Bankhe and all of his family. Honest retired Judge Justice Deenanath live a happy life-style with his wife and two sons, advocate Ravi and inspector Sunil. Professor Anand lives a wealthy lifestyle in Bombay along with his wife, son, Raju, and a sister, Barkha, who will soon get married to Police Inspector Sumeet. Anand gets information that about a drug deal through Raghu, and together he and Sumeet apprehend Sangram Singh, who is arrested, tried in Court, but not found guilty. As a result, Sumeet resigns, and subsequently, Sangram's men break into Anand's house, kill his wife and son, assault Barkha, who is hospitalized, and loses her memory. Anand and Sumeet recruit Bhima, Amar, and Johnny, and they wage war on Sangram and his illegal operations. They do make a huge impact, and even influence Sangram's daughter to go against her dad. Their future plans change drastically when Sangram decides to strike back - this time by targeting each one of his opponents individually, and abducting Barkha.

Amar lives a poor lifestyle along with his widowed mom in a village, and has a sweetheart in Savitri. But not for long for soon he will be called upon to provide bail for a jailed Yamraj and Chitragupt, who will soon return to Swarg Lok and take him along too!!

Inspector Ajay lives with his widowed mother in a city in India. Gauri lives a poor lifestyle in a small town in India along with her maternal uncle, Pandey, and aunt, Parvati. Pandey is the peon for the District Forest Officer, and his wife and Gauri assist him in cooking, and cleaning the officer's living quarters. When Jain retires, he is replaced by a much younger officer, Vikas Kashyap, whose family, consisting of two married brothers, their wives, and his widowed mother, live a wealthy lifestyle in Bombay. Vikas takes over the job, and a few days later his mother also comes to live there. Gauri falls in love with Vikas, and is convinced that he, too, is in love with her. She even undertakes the Karva Chauth Vrath - little realizing that Vikas is in love with London-based Sonia, and their marriage will soon be finalized.

After losing their parents in a flood at a young age, two brothers grow up to become a police officer and a lawyer, working with a local newspaper owner to help rid the city of bootlegging gangsters.
