During WWII, Duke E. Gifford is second in command of the USS Thunderfish, a submarine which is firing off torpedoes that either explode too early or never explode at all. 18-year-old Urano Suzu marries Hojo Shusaku and moves from Eba City to Kure City in Hiroshima Prefecture in the middle of the Pacific War. Shibusawa Eiichi was born in 1840 to a farmer’s family. He grew up helping his family with work, which was to manufacture and sell indigo production and also silk farming. He left his hometown at the age of 23 and began working for the government. He later traveled to Paris and learned about banking. Upon his return to Japan, he helped build up the first modern bank in Japan. He eventually became a founder or supporter to about 500 companies and was involved with about 600 public services, including education for women.

Mutsumi (Serena Motola) is a rookie designer and she is employed at small design company Lemon Design. She is busy with prep work for magazine shoots, like scouting locations and working with photographers. She has doubts about her work not being that of a designer. Tetsuko (Megumi) senses Mutsumi’s feelings. She tells Mutsumi that she is a salaryman. Mutsumi doesn’t understand why Tetsuko told her that.

High school girl Shimoshiraishi Mugi, a former idol otaku is about to graduate high school but still is undecided in her career path.
