Eddie Izzard pushes her body and sense of humour to the limit for Sport Relief as she takes on an immense challenge - travelling to South Africa to run 27 marathons in 27 days to mark the 27 years that their hero Nelson Mandela spent in prison. In Rwanda, Africa, a new era is dawning after a brutal civil war ripped through the country, killing close to two million people and wiping out its most iconic wildlife: the regal lion. Now, 25 years later, the big cats are being reintroduced to the region to reclaim their throne. Follow this magnificent seven, a collection of five females and two males, as they travel thousands of miles from South Africa to Akagera National Park and attempt to figure out their new land, form relationships, and restore the pride of a nation.

Four top predators are compared, each champion in a type of environment, with key adaptations. On the ground, the cheetah outruns prey (approached in masterly stealth) and enemies. In the air, the peregrine falcon is a flight and diving machine. In sweet water, the Nile crocodile survives since the Dino age, without natural enemies, with several amazing metabolism stunts. Lurking under water, it snaps blindly at migrating wildebeest, then waits underground. In the oceans, the equally ancient shark, notably the great white, migrates seasonally to find abundant prey, such as young seals around South Africa.

In 2000 intrepid Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) conservationist Mike Fay (left) finished walking 2,000 miles (3,200 kilometers) to help preserve the diversity of life in Congo and Gabon. As a result of "Megatran-sect," Gabon established its first system of national parks. Since then Fay has set his sights on all of Africa. His goal was to travel to key ecoregions, discover where wild Africa survives, then spark action for conservation. In 2004 Mike hopscotched the continent in a Cessna guided by the WCS maps, which revealed the impact of human activity on the wilderness. Follow his journey through logged dispatches.

In the Kruger National Park there is a hunting force that rivals anything else in Africa - a lion pride, 28 members strong!
