On 2 July 2012 Alanis Morissette returned to Montreux as part of her Guardian Angel Tour in support of her new album Havoc And Bright Lights . It was her third appearance at the festival. All My Friends Are Cowboys is a musical play based on the formative years of Kelly C. Crabb, who worked on a livestock farm in Utah before becoming an author and entertainment lawyer. The show was produced for television by PBS, and featured performances by Johnny Cash, June Carter Cash, Wilford Brimley, Joe Diffie and (in his final taped appearance) Roy Rogers.

The Opening Ceremony reflected the key themes and priorities of the London 2012 Games, based on sport, inspiration, youth and urban transformation. It was a Ceremony 'for everyone' and celebrated contributions the UK has made to the world through innovation and revolution, as well as the creativity and exuberance of British people.
