The Mobile Shinsengumi was organized for the specific reason of keeping Kyouto safe from influences which would hinder Japan's efforts towards westernization, be those demons and monsters of every shape and size or a band of misanthropes bent on turning the clock back for the city of Kyou. Yuuko Kondou, Toshie Hijikata, and Kaoru Okita are daughters of the reknowned Isamu Kondou, Toshizou Hijikata, and Soushi Okita, leaders of the feared, original Shinsengumi. They have come together under the banner of "Truth" as their fathers once had and under the guidance of Ms. Oryou. With the help of Oryou's son Ryuunosuke, Shintarou, Gennai, and the cat monster Nekomaru, they protect Kyouto from the evil that lurks in the shadows. The anime centers on Minori, an office worker, and her boss Hadano, who are constantly arguing with each other. One night, after a company drinking party, Minori and Hadano are having their usual argument, when Minori realizes that she has missed the last train. The workplace comedy's story follows a 26-year-old office worker named Momose. He recently changed jobs after his previous boss harassed him. He's worried his new boss will also use power harassment to make his life miserable. Momose is trying to hide his anxious stomach when he first meets his new boss Shirasaki, however he's surprised to find his new boss is such a natural airhead that he eliminates all of Momose's anxiety.

The main character drops out of high school in her second year, and aims at entering a university while working alone in Tokyo. A girl is betrayed by her friends and doesn't know what to do. Another girl is abandoned by her parents, and tries to survive in the city by doing part-time jobs. This world lets us down all the time. Nothing goes as planned. But we want something that we can continue to like. We believe there's a place where we belong. That's why we sing.

Ai Shite Knight is a shōjo manga created in the early 1980s by Kaoru Tada. An anime version of the story in 42 episodes was also produced in 1983-1984 by Toei Animation, and features episodes supervised by Shingo Araki.
