At age 13, a street kid known as "El Polaquito" makes his living mostly by singing tangos (originally sung by his namesake, the singer "El Polaco") on Buenos Aires commuter trains. He falls in love with a 16 year old prostitute, also working for the Mafia controlling child exploitation in one of Argentina's busiest train stations. He tries to rescue her from this cruel life with no future. But to do so, he must confront the ruthless adult gang leaders, as well as the young kids who protect them, believing that this Mafia is truly their only option. Once in Barcelona, he opens the tango bar but Laura's partner tells him he sold the bracelet and now needs to recover it to avoid both Laura and him going to jail.

Theater manager James Guthrie's (Melvyn Douglas) career depends on famed soprano Elsa Terry (Grace Moore) singing in his Buenos Aires opera house, however, Elsa breaks the contract in favor of a more lucrative deal in Paris. ¡Tango! follows a formula established by Carlos Gardel with films such as Luces de Buenos Aires (The Lights of Buenos Aires, 1931) in which a melodramatic story is interspersed with tango songs. However, the film had less dialog and more music, making it more like a musical revue. This format would be copied by many subsequent films. The plot is derived from tango songs. Many of these songs tell of the seduction of an innocent slum girl by a rich man who promises her a glamorous life, but who abandons her when her looks fade. The stylized and sentimental plot of ¡Tango! revolves around a young man who is abandoned by his girlfriend for an older rich man and is heartbroken. The film follows his misfortunes.

But when the lawyer decides to do something, it changes for both of them. Both realize that they love each other and that, beyond the different lives they lead, they will fight to be together.

Tres anclados en París

Three Argentines who live in Paris and dream of returning to Buenos Aires but lack resources for the passage, find their opportunity when a landowner, a business man and his daughter arrive in Paris. In a game of rigged poker the three anchors obtain the money for the passages from the newcomers; it happens however that the employer has made an embezzlement and will go to jail if he does not return the money. The character represented by Parravicini, who is the true father of his adopted daughter, gives him the money won to solve his problem and the three remain in Paris to see them in an end with the best poetry of Romero crossing a bridge under the mist , silent, once again anchored but with the happy sadness of recovered self-esteem.

P'al otro lado

Desideria, a servant girl, dreams of traveling to Buenos Aires. Incredibly, Blas Pastrana, a relative of her employers, is dying in Argentina and expressly asks them to travel with her. When he arrives at his deathbed, he says that he inherits everything to the employee, confessing that she is his daughter, but on one condition: that in less than two weeks she gets married. Her employers try to convince her to marry the son of the family, Jorge, but Desideria is interested in Tito, a nice porteño. Everything ends in a surprise ending.
