TLC is a darkly surreal farce-like sitcom set in a fictional NHS hospital called South Middlesex where coffee is traded like drugs and pretty much everyone has a personality problem. Victoria Wood was a series of six one-off situation comedies written by and starring Victoria Wood in 1989, who took a break from sketches, two years after her very successful and award winning series Victoria Wood As Seen on TV. Wood appeared as "Victoria", a fictionalised version of herself, in all six episodes - in The Library it was said that she "worked in TV" and in Over To Pam characters appeared to recognise her celebrity and in the final episode, Staying In, she was taken to a party to perform as a comedienne and was expected to go through her stand-up 'routine'. Her character often broke the 'fourth wall' of TV and spoke directly to the camera, but not in every episode. Bored with the sketch format and with a yearning to recapture previous success as a playwright, Wood came up with six individual sitcoms as a compromise. She admitted to finding the writing difficult. Though Wood was written as the central character, other lead parts were written with specific actresses in mind, like Julie Walters and Una Stubbs. "I want people to like me and the people who play my friends, and not everybody else" she said. Screenonline says of the shows "Modest in ambition and scale but rich in wit and acuity, the six playlets showcase Wood's eye for human foibles and her distinctively eccentric characters.".

Worst Week is an American TV series which originally aired on CBS from September 22, 2008 to June 6, 2009. The series was based on the British sitcom The Worst Week of My Life. The show was adapted for American audiences by Fox under the title Worst Week of My Life, but a series failed to materialize after the pilot was filmed. Roy is an Irish television show, based in Dublin, which has been shown on TRTÉ in Ireland, CBBC in the United Kingdom and ABC3 in Australia and aired from 1 July 2009 to 1 April 2015. The show centres around the title character Roy O'Brien, the animated son of a real family, as he settles into his new school. It stars Scott Graham, Simon Delaney, Cathy Belton and Martha Byrne. The series is filmed as a mockumentry and based on the short film called Badly Drawn Roy which was commissioned by the Irish Film Board, RTÉ and the Arts Council of Ireland through their frameworks scheme for new animation. The series was commissioned by CBBC and produced with funding from RTÉ and the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland. Both the series and the short film was produced by Jam Media. The series' protagonist, Roy's character animation, layout and clean-up were all rendered through the European animation software, CelAction 2D. A second series was broadcast in early 2012. A third and fourth series were confirmed with the creation of 60 jobs in October 2012.In November 2012, the second series of Roy won the 2012 Children's BAFTA Drama Award Filming began on a third and fourth series in January 2013.
